You’ll hire and mentor engineers, shape product direction, and ensure alignment with business outcomes. A strong backend/AI background and experience with senior staff are expected.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of software engineering with leadership experience.
• Experience managing senior staff or principal reports while coding.
• Backend or backend-leaning full-stack with design reviews and debugging.
• Experience leading external customer-facing products and scaling teams.
• Ability to set clear expectations and provide direct feedback.
• Exposure to AI/ML systems; Python, TypeScript and cloud infra useful.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Lead a core engineering team building AI-powered tools that transform complex tax documents into reliable structured data. This hands-on player-coach role combines people leadership with regular technical contribution as the team grows.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

• Manage and grow a team of senior, staff, and principal engineers while contributing code, reviewing designs, and debugging challenging problems.
• Ship customer-facing, evaluation-driven AI products for document processing and data extraction.
• Coach engineers through direct feedback, support their technical and product judgment, and help develop future leaders.
• Own hiring, onboarding, and team growth as the organization scales.
• Work with domain experts and customer-facing teams to connect engineering decisions to product and business outcomes.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

• 10 or more years of software engineering experience, with substantial hands-on individual contributor work and formal engineering management experience.
• Experience managing a team of engineers, ideally including staff or principal-level reports, while remaining actively involved in production software development.
• Backend, backend infrastructure, or backend-leaning full-stack expertise, with current experience writing code, reviewing designs and pull requests, and debugging.
• Experience building or leading external, customer-facing products and hiring, onboarding, and scaling engineering teams.
• Ability to set clear expectations, give direct feedback, address performance concerns, and help engineers grow.
• Exposure to AI or machine learning systems, such as document AI, retrieval-based systems, agentic systems, or evaluation-driven development. Python, TypeScript, and cloud infrastructure experience are useful.
• Must be authorized to work in the United States without visa sponsorship.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

• Base salary: $415,000 to $450,000 annually.
• Visa sponsorship is not available.
