Job summary

Amazon in Boston is seeking a Senior Manager for Elastic File System to set the technical vision for one of AWS’s critical storage services, leading multiple engineering teams to deliver scalable, fully managed cloud file storage used by startups to enterprises.

You will hire and mentor engineering leaders, shape a 3–5 year roadmap, drive distributed systems excellence, partner across S3, EBS, FSx, and AWS Storage, and maintain operational health while pushing for simplification and innovation.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of engineering experience.
• 5+ years of engineering team management experience.
• 10+ years of planning, designing, developing and delivering consumer software experience.
• Experience partnering with product or program management teams.
• Experience managing multiple concurrent programs, projects and development teams in an Agile environment.

Responsibilities

• Build and develop engineering leadership: Hire, mentor, and advance engineering leaders and senior engineers, creating an inclusive environment where technical talent can grow and contribute meaningfully to strategic initiatives.
• Define strategic technical vision: Own a strategically important area of EFS architecture—such as the data plane, metadata service, or replication systems—and establish a 3–5 year technical roadmap that addresses the needs of large, critical customer bases.
• Drive architectural excellence: Contribute to distributed systems design discussions, identify systemic risks and opportunities across the storage stack, and champion solutions that improve security, maintainability, and operational efficiency.
• Influence across organizational boundaries: Partner with teams across S3, EBS, FSx, and the broader AWS ecosystem to reach consensus on technical direction, influence peer roadmaps, and deliver cohesive solutions that advance cloud storage capabilities.
• Establish operational excellence: Create mechanisms to inspect service quality, customer experience, and operational health, while fostering a culture of innovation that encourages simplification and continuous improvement.
