ROCHESTER GAS & ELEC CORP invites applications for a Senior Planning Engineer to join our transmission planning team in Rochester, NY. You will identify and develop transmission system investments to modernize the grid and support the clean energy transition.

Primary duties include performing power system studies (steady-state, stability, short-circuit, transfer limits) using PSS/E, ASPEN, CYME and similar tools, and communicating results to internal and external stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering is required.
• Minimum 5 years of industry experience in planning/operation of transmission and distribution power systems.
• Advanced degree or professional certifications are a plus.

Responsibilities

• Perform power system studies (steady-state, stability, short-circuit, transfer limits) using industry tools.
• Collaborate with stakeholders and represent NYSEG and RG&E in forums.
• Scope, analyze, and quality-check technical studies; ensure timely deliverables.
• Document results, write reports, and prepare presentations.
• Assist during storm restoration as needed.

As Senior Engineer, your primary responsibilities will include playing a primary role in performing highly technical power system studies including modeling, simulations, and analyses to address system needs and support the company’s strategic vision.Specific responsibilities include:* Perform and collaborate on power system studies (steady-state, stability, short-circuit, transfer limit, PV/QC, etc.) using industry-standard software tools such as PSS/E, ASPEN, TARA, and CYME.* Use of highly proficient verbal and written communication skills to inform and influence internal and external stakeholders. Represent NYSEG and RG&E in national and regional forums.* Work independently to perform the scoping, analysis, and quality assurance of technical studies. Be accountable for the quality and timing of deliverables.* Analyze and assess complex transmission systems at numerous voltage levels. However, applicable industry and other relevant technical skills will be considered for candidates without previous direct utility and/or system planning experience.Technical Skills/Competencies* Software Proficiency: Advanced capability with steady state power system modeling and simulation software (e.g., TARA, PSS/E, PowerWorld, PSLF, CYME, etc.). Additional consideration given to experience with a dynamic stability, short circuit, PV/QV, transfer limit analyses and software.* Regulatory and Compliance Knowledge: Familiarity with Local, State, Regional, and Federal regulatory standards, processes, and requirements. Ability to comprehend regulatory processes/requirements and formulate an action plan to achieve results and ensure compliance.* Teamwork: Experienced in working collaboratively within a team towards a shared goal.
