Collins Aerospace in Cedar Rapids, IA is seeking a Senior Engineer, Systems Engineering to join our Avionics team. This onsite role focuses on delivering advanced aerospace systems and architectures.

You will perform cross-disciplinary analysis, integrate and verify systems, and translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications while managing configuration and ensuring cost/schedule constraints are met.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering or related field plus 5 years of progressive experience in systems engineering or 3 years with a Master’s degree.
  • 3+ years designing and specifying deterministic network architectures (Ethernet, IPv4/IPv6, TSN, VLANs, QoS) and deterministic legacy protocols (ARINC 429, MIL-STD-1553, CAN, ARINC 629).
  • 3+ years of integration (network testing, simulation, automated scripting) and testing digital computing systems, switches, routers, NICs, gateways.

  • Plan, integrate, verify and validate systems for cost, risk, and supportability.

What YOU will do
  • Perform analysis at all levels of the total system product including concept, design, fabrication, modeling, test, installation, operation, maintenance and disposal.
  • Perform technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk, and supportability and effectiveness analyses for total systems.
  • Consider and evaluate alternatives accounting for similar metrics.
  • Manage configuration process, perform functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications.
  • Ensure the logical and systematic conversion of product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints.
  • Perform architectural exploration.
  • Decompose customer specifications and system level requirements into sub-system and piece part requirements, and generate verification criteria and plan for the requirements.
Qualifications You Must Have
  • Must possess at least a bachelor's degree or its equivalent in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related field and 5 years of progressive experience as a Systems Engineer or related role. In the alternative, must possess at least a master's degree or its equivalent in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related field and 3 years of experience as a Systems Engineer or related role would be acceptable.
  • Must possess at least 3 years of experience designing and specifying deterministic network architectures, including but not limited to: Ethernet-based networks (IPv4/IPv6, TSN, VLANs, QoS, multicast) and Deterministic legacy protocols: ARINC 429, MIL-STD-1553, CAN, ARINC 629.
  • Must possess at least 3 years of experience with integration (network testing, simulation, and automated scripting (e.g., Python, Bash)) and testing digital computing systems, switches, routers, NICs, and gateways.
  • Must possess at least 3 years of experience with experience with safety-critical development standards, including: DO-178C, DO-254, DO-297, AC20-193, or ARP4754B.
  • Must possess at least 3 years of experience with troubleshooting digital computing systems and complex avionics networking systems.

Employees who are working in Onsite roles will work onsite. This includes all production and maintenance employees, as they are essential to the development of our products.

The salary range is $102,502.00 to $165,200.00 USD per year. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

As part of our commitment to maintaining a secure hiring process, candidates may be asked to attendselect steps of the interview process in-person at one of our office locations, regardless of whether the role is designated as on-site, hybrid or remote.
