Job summary

Rockwell Collins Inc. d/b/a Collins Aerospace in Cedar Rapids, IA, seeks a Senior Engineer, Software Engineering to design, develop, document, test and debug control and diagnostic systems for avionics applications.

You will work on multidisciplinary engineering teams, ensuring DO-178B/C compliant software, safety-critical embedded systems, and avionics protocols. Relocation assistance may be available; on-site role in Cedar Rapids.

Qualifications

  • BS or MS in CS/SE/EE/Avionics with relevant software experience.
  • 3–5 years in avionics development and safety-critical embedded software.
  • Experience with DO-178B/C compliance.
  • Experience with avionics communication protocols (AFDX/ARINC 664, ARINC 429, Ethernet).
  • Experience with HIL, test automation, simulation and validation.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, document, test and debug control and diagnostic systems.
  • Conduct multidisciplinary research and collaborate with equipment designers.
  • Analyze system capabilities to meet end-user needs and input data requirements.
  • Ensure hardware and software standards are met.
  • Develop build procedures for hardware/software product development.

What YOU will do
  • Design, develop, document, test and debug control and diagnostic systems that contain logical and mathematical solutions.
  • Conduct multidisciplinary research and collaborate with equipment designers in the planning, design, development, and utilization of electronic data processing systems for product and commercial software.
  • Determine end user needs by analyzing system capabilities to resolve problems on program intent, output requirements and input data acquisition.
  • Ensure hardware and software standards are met.
  • Design and implement build procedures that are used to support hardware and software product development and use.
  • May develop software configuration standards for company-wide use.
  • May train software developers in the use of configuration management tools and the implementation of software quality standards.
  • Includes control modeling (model-based design).
Qualifications You Must Have
  • Must possess at least a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Avionics/Aerospace Engineering or related field and at least 5 years of progressive experience as a Software Engineer or related role. In the alternative, must possess at least a master’s degree or its equivalent in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Avionics/Aerospace Engineering or related field and at least 3 years of experience as a Software Engineer or related role would be acceptable.
  • Must possess at least 3 years of experience in Safety critical embedded software development and verification.
  • Must possess at least 3 years of experience in avionics development and verification, including DO-178B/C compliant software.
  • Must possess at least 1 year of experience in avionics communication protocols such as AFDX (ARINC 664), ARINC 429, and Ethernet-based systems.
  • Must possess at least 1 year of experience in HIL integration, test automation, simulation, and validation of complex avionics systems.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without the company’s immigration sponsorship now or in the future. The company will not offer immigration sponsorship for this position. The company will not seek an export authorization for this role.

Employees who are working in Onsite roles will work onsite. This includes all production and maintenance employees, as they are essential to the development of our products.

The salary range is $135,803.00 to $165,200.00 USD per year. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
