Responsibilities

• Serve as a technical expert in the design and application of substation physical engineering solutions.
• Provide technical leadership, guidance, and mentorship to engineers, specialists, and technicians.
• Research, develop, and implement innovative engineering solutions, processes, and best practices.
• Lead the development and review of project scopes, budgets, schedules, and deliverables to ensure high-quality execution.
• Manage engineering projects through the full project lifecycle from concept to installation and commissioning.
• Create detailed substation physical designs, electrical layouts, BOMs, and project estimates.
• Support customers with engineering design, configuration, validation, testing, commissioning, and implementation of engineered solutions.
• Collaborate with clients, utilities, consultants, and stakeholders to deliver successful outcomes.
• Promote EH&S initiatives and ensure compliance with safety standards.
• Lead technical training efforts and support the professional development of engineering staff.

Overview

Our client, a leading provider of power system protection, automation, and integration solutions, is seeking a Senior Engineer - Substation Physical to lead the design and execution of complex substation projects, provide technical leadership and mentorship, and support customers throughout the project lifecycle. The ideal candidate brings 12+ years of power systems experience, expert knowledge of substation physical design, a PE license, and a proven track record managing engineering projects, client relationships, and multidisciplinary teams. This position is open to candidates nationwide. Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
• 12+ years of experience with electric power systems or equivalent utility, consulting, or engineering industry experience.
• Expert-level knowledge in substation physical design and engineering principles.
• Extensive experience designing electrical power substations, including equipment layouts, grading, drainage, foundations, and constructability considerations.
• Strong technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Experience managing complex engineering projects, budgets, schedules, and client deliverables.
• Excellent written, verbal, and technical documentation skills.
• Ability to learn new technologies and adapt to evolving project requirements.
• Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
• Willingness and ability to travel up to 25% as required.
• Ability to successfully complete a background check and drug screening.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license.
• Supervisory or team leadership experience.
• Experience working for an electrical utility, engineering consulting firm, or system integrator.
• Extensive customer-facing experience within the power systems industry.
• Experience using project management or project tracking software.
