Job summary

MP Materials is seeking a hands-on Senior Engineer to lead the development and optimization of precision machining processes and dimensional control strategies for high‑performance rare earth permanent magnets.

This role focuses on manufacturability with micron‑level tolerances, applying GD&T (ASME Y14.5), SPC, and process capability analysis, while mentoring technicians and collaborating with cross‑functional teams.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • 5+ years in precision machining and dimensional control, brittle materials preferred.
  • Strong GD&T, blueprint reading, tolerance analysis, and DFM experience.

Responsibilities

  • Lead development and refinement of machining processes for magnets with tight tolerances.
  • Apply ASME Y14.5 GD&T to ensure precise geometry and surface integrity.
  • Review drawings, design for manufacturability, prototype parts, and improve processes.
  • Analyze data (Cpk/Ppk, gauge R&R, SPC) to monitor and improve capability.
  • Design fixtures, jigs, and tooling for brittle magnet materials.
  • Mentor engineers and technicians; ensure safety and regulatory compliance.
