Job summary

Electric Power Engineers is seeking a senior Power Systems Engineer to lead ERCOT-focused analyses including curtailment, LMP and SCED studies. You will guide a team, liaise with clients, and shape strategies around market trends and project opportunities.

Ideal candidates bring 5+ years in power systems, PSCAD/PSS/E experience, and strong communication skills to drive innovative grid modeling solutions. The role offers remote US work with opportunities for travel and collaboration across teams.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Economics, or related field (Master’s preferred).
  • 5+ years as Power Systems Engineer in generation and transmission interconnection.
  • 5+ years in electric energy industry with power flow modeling and SCED analysis.
  • ERCOT interconnection process experience; other ISOs a plus.
  • PSCAD and PSS/E modeling experience; generation-focused load modeling a plus.
  • MQT (ERCOT Model Quality Testing) experience.
  • Strong communication and client-facing skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and analytics.

Responsibilities

  • Lead analyses of congestion and basis risks for ERCOT projects.
  • Perform due diligence on operations, market revenues, and contracts.
  • Lead transmission load flow and SCED LMP analyses.
  • Evaluate site opportunities and ensure competitive transmission availability.
  • Provide expertise on interconnection issues through all project phases.
  • Analyze grid interconnection for LMP, congestion, and curtailment risks.
  • Forecast and advise on FTRs, forward prices, and LMP spreads.
  • Collaborate on market trends, regulatory changes, and opportunities.
  • Support business development with scope of work and proposals.
  • Mentor junior engineers and represent EPE at meetings.

This role leads the delivery of curtailment, LMP and SCED studies across ERCOT. Operating with minimal supervision, the position manages complex technical studies, oversees analystical processes, and guides a team of power system engineers. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in wholesale electricity markets, advanced modeling capabilities, and strong client‑facing communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct in-depth analyses of congestion and basis risks for potential and existing projects, focusing on long‑term regional transmission planning and development in ERCOT.
  • Perform financial, commercial, and engineering due diligence, including assessments of project operations, grid connection, market revenues, and contract provisions.
  • Lead and conduct transmission load flow and SCED Location Marginal Price (LMP) analyses.
  • Strategize on new project site selection and evaluate transmission‑related opportunities to ensure competitive transmission availability for each project.
  • Offer expertise on transmission and interconnection issues during all project phases.
  • Analyze grid interconnection for due diligence activities, including LMP, congestion risk, and curtailment risks.
  • Forecast and advise on Financial Transmission Rights (FTRs), forward prices, transmission congestion, curtailments, and LMP basis price spread.
  • Collaborate across EPE teams to strategize on market trends, regulatory changes, and investment opportunities.
  • Support business development and prepare scopes of work/proposals.
  • Contribute to the organizational knowledge base and develop innovative study approaches.
  • Mentor and develop junior Power Systems Engineers.
  • Represent EPE at technical meetings and conferences.
  • Carry out additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Bring your passion, here's what’s needed:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Economics, or related field (Master’s preferred).
  • 5+ years professional experience as a Power Systems Engineer supporting generation and transmission interconnection
  • 5+years of experience in the electric energy industry, with expertise in power flow modeling, transmission planning, and SCED analysis (PROMOD, UPLAN, PLEXOS, Grid View, etc.).
  • Well-versed in the interconnection process of ERCOT from the initial filing of the interconnection application through commercial operations; Other ISOs are a plus.
  • PSCAD and PSS/E modeling experience, generation-focused(load modeling a plus).
  • Hands‑on ERCOT Model Quality Testing (MQT) experience.
  • Proven team player with the ability to build and maintain internal and external relationships.
  • Experience leveraging AI and automation tools responsibly to improve quality, productivity and innovation
  • Have high standards in producing quality reports and products that he/she shall own with pride.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills, both written and verbal, particularly with respect to explaining technical matters.
  • Strong customer focus, both internal and external.
  • Strong background in power system optimization and knowledge of various market structures (PJM, SPP, MISO, NYISO, ISO‑NE, CAISO).
  • Significant experience with and/or experience in the ERCOT market is preferred.
  • Experience in resource planning, market design, renewable energy finance, and contract negotiation
  • Prior experience supporting IRPs, resource adequacy, market design and rule development, RECs, ITC and PTC, PPA negotiation, and financial modeling of renewable energy assets will be looked upon favorably.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and advanced analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills and technological aptitude.
