Job summary

Electric Power Engineers is seeking an experienced Power Systems Engineer to lead generation interconnection and provide expert modeling for ERCOT projects. You will oversee complex technical studies, mentor junior engineers, and support business development with strong client engagement.

Ideal candidates bring 5+ years in generation and transmission interconnection, PSCAD/PSS/E modeling, and the ability to communicate complex concepts clearly to clients and stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of professional experience as a Power Systems Engineer supporting generation and transmission interconnection.
  • Familiarity with ERCOT interconnection process from filing to commercial operations; other ISOs a plus.
  • PSCAD and PSS/E modeling experience.
  • Hands-on ERCOT Model Quality Testing (MQT) experience.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to build internal/external relationships.

Responsibilities

  • Lead generation interconnection efforts within the ERCOT footprint as the technical expert for interconnection processes.
  • Identify optimal grid interconnection strategies based on system impacts and grid capacity.
  • Perform EMT studies and model benchmarking per IEEE, ISO and utility guidelines.
  • Create and validate PSS/E, PSCAD, and TSAT plant models for Solar PV, BESS, Wind, and conventional projects; advise on modeling issues.
  • Lead advanced large-load power system modeling and dynamic impact studies to assess performance and requirements.
  • Conduct interconnection modeling, due diligence, analysis, and specialized grid studies including Reactive Power Compensation.
  • Support business development and prepare scopes of work/proposals.
  • Mentor junior Power Systems Engineers and represent EPE at meetings and conferences.

Overview

We are designing the grid of the future!

This role leads the delivery of power system generation and merchant transmission interconnection services across ERCOT. Operating with minimal supervision, the position manages complex technical studies, oversees interconnection processes, and guides a team of power system engineers. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in generation interconnection, advanced modeling capabilities, and strong client‑facing communication skills. This role is central to shaping interconnection strategy, ensuring high‑quality technical analyses, and supporting the growth of the organization’s power systems practice.

Responsibilities

  • Lead generation interconnection efforts within the ERCOT footprint, serving as the technical expert for energy resource (generator and load) interconnection processes.
  • Identify optimal grid interconnection strategies based on system impacts and grid capacity.
  • Perform EMT studies as well as model benchmarking studies in accordance with IEEE, ISO and Utility guidelines.
  • Create and validate PSS/E, PSCAD, and TSAT plant models for Solar PV, BESS, Wind, and conventional projects. Serve as subject matter expert on modelling issues and model tuning for these plant models
  • Lead and perform advanced large‑load power system modeling and dynamic impact studies to assess system performance and interconnection requirements.
  • Perform interconnection modeling, due diligence, analysis, and specialized grid studies including Reactive Power Compensation.
  • Support business development and prepare scopes of work/proposals.
  • Contribute to the organizational knowledge base and develop innovative study approaches.
  • Mentor and develop junior Power Systems Engineers.
  • Represent EPE at technical meetings and conferences.
  • Stay up to date with emerging technologies, market innovations, and best practices in the energy industry to enhance the organization's offerings and capabilities.
Qualifications

Bring your passion, here's what’s needed:

  • 5+ years professional experience as a Power Systems Engineer supporting generation and transmission interconnection
  • Well‑versed in the interconnection process of ERCOT from the initial filing of the interconnection application through commercial operations; Other ISOs are a plus.
  • PSCAD and PSS/E modeling experience
  • Hands‑on ERCOT Model Quality Testing (MQT) experience.
  • Proven team player with the ability to build and maintain internal and external relationships.
  • Experience leveraging AI and automation tools responsibly to improve quality, productivity and innovation
  • Have high standards in producing quality reports and products that he/she shall own with pride.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills, both written and verbal, particularly with respect to explaining technical matters.
  • Strong customer focus, both internal and external.
