Job Description Summary
Plant electric power distribution systems (EPDS) design including nuclear (NI) and turbine island (TI), balance of plant (BOP), and interface to switchyard and grid. Scope includes safety-related (S-R) or Safety Class 1 (SC1), augmented quality or SC2 and SC3, and nonsafety-related (NSR) systems for advanced light water reactor (ALWR) [focus on BWRX-300] and advanced liquid metal reactor (ALMR) [Natrium] for commercial nuclear power plants and test facilities. This role focuses on the analytical aspects of electrical systems discipline. Responsible for all aspects of electrical systems analysis including technical leadership and process ownership.
Job Description
Essential Responsibilities:
- Identify, develop, evaluate, introduce, and manage engineering solutions for EPDS.
- Apply electrical circuit and electromagnetic theory, mathematical modeling, and simulation to design electrical systems with desired behaviors including power flow balance, setting boundaries, optimization, coordination across voltage levels, and understanding complex systems.
- Design scope includes AC and DC systems, components, and equipment such as main generators, transformers, switchgear, relays, panels, wiring, grounding, motors, drives, batteries, and inverters.
- Support development of customer applications for grid connection.
- Design protection and control system components interfacing with the grid.
- Lead or support design processes through various project phases: FEED, conceptual, preliminary, detailed.
- Maintain data-centric digital documentation including reports, specifications, diagrams, and simulation models.
- Collaborate with other disciplines to meet performance and reliability goals using FMEA, PRA, and modern techniques.
- Lead or support regulatory certification, procurement, and system implementation, ensuring compliance and safety.
- Oversee suppliers' testing and inspection plans to ensure quality and compliance.
- Establish relationships with project teams, suppliers, and stakeholders.
- Review and verify supplier deliverables for accuracy and completeness.
- Perform trade-off studies for technical and cost optimization.
- Develop work plans covering scope, schedule, and budget.
- Ensure project deliverables meet quality, budget, and schedule requirements.
- Support process improvement initiatives.
- Provide leadership and mentoring, fostering a safety and quality culture.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field.
- 10 years of experience in high-reliability industries with detailed design, documentation, and procurement using digital tools.
- Experience with electrical standards such as IEEE or IEC, with specific standards listed.
- Experience with heavy electrical equipment installation, analysis, and qualification.
- Proficiency with software including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Project, Visio, and CAD tools.
- 7 years of experience with electrical system modeling and simulation tools like ETAP.
- 5 years of experience with P&C design and grid interfacing.

- Preferred location at Wilmington, NC, or remote for highly qualified US candidates.
Desired Characteristics:
- Master’s degree and professional certifications are preferred.
- Experience with equipment qualification, digital collaboration tools, and compliance standards.
- Strong analytical, communication, and leadership skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work in a team environment.
- Knowledge of Agile, LEAN, FMEA, DFR, and related methodologies.
