Job description

Job Description Summary

The need for clean energy is greater than ever. At GE Vernova Hitachi (GEVH), we are helping address climate change by designing technology to power our future with reliable, affordable, carbon-free energy. We are a world leader in advanced reactor technology, fuel, and services. Join us as we build our legacy, boldly innovating to provide carbon-free power to the world.

We are a diverse and dedicated global team that values your unique identity, background, and experiences. We are committed to fostering an inclusive culture where everyone feels empowered to do their best work because they feel accepted, respected, and that they belong. Embracing diverse teams and perspectives enables us to build a better world.

Discipline Engineers will be part of a multi-disciplinary technical team of dedicated engineers and scientists responsible for applying GEH's new plant technology to prospective sites, including providing comprehensive engineering input for new plant proposals, early works agreements, and new product offerings.

In this role, the Electrical Systems Discipline Engineer will determine how standard plant designs meet application-specific requirements, codes, and standards while incorporating new product modifications. You will leverage your expertise to provide detailed statements of work, proposal write-ups, engineering estimates, schedule development, and risk assessments supporting site selection, permitting, and licensing milestones. Coordination with functional managers for departures from standard products will be necessary to produce cost, cycle, and risk estimates for new plant opportunities. You will also ensure the on-time and on-budget delivery of early works projects and new product developments, collaborating with internal and external technical teams.

Job Responsibilities

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Report to the Plant Engineering Manager and the Discipline Engineering Manager.
  • Ensure proposals and early works packages align with our standard offerings, identifying any technical departures and providing associated costs, cycle times, and risks.
  • Establish and maintain effective discipline-specific design interfaces documented in proposals and contracts.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with internal engineering teams.
  • Interface with external partners, customers, and regulatory agencies on technical issues.
  • Assist proposal and early works teams in building estimates, schedules, and risk assessments.
  • Guide external engineering resources to ensure quality, flexibility, and improved cost positions.
  • Support business development efforts to generate new opportunities.
  • Protect GEH's intellectual property rights.
  • Support initiatives for process improvement and compliance with nuclear safety standards.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or related field.
  • Minimum 8 years of progressive engineering design or project leadership experience.
  • At least 4 years of experience in the nuclear industry or large-scale power plant projects.
Additional Requirements
  • Location: Wilmington, NC preferred, remote candidates considered.
  • Travel: Up to 10% domestic and international (15% if remote).
  • Ability to access U.S. export-controlled information; contingent on obtaining necessary authorization.
Preferred Skills
  • Experience liaising across geographic locations.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and project management skills.
  • EPC experience, especially in power plants.
  • Understanding of nuclear technology and safety standards.

The salary range is $128,000 – $202,000, with potential bonuses and benefits as detailed. Application deadline: May 16th.
