Job summary

Mercury Marine, based in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, is seeking an experienced engineer to improve the quality, functionality, and performance of its propulsion product line. The role focuses on solving complex mechanical issues and guiding design and test activities across manufacturing and service teams.

Ideal candidates hold a B.S. in mechanical engineering with 5+ years in related roles, and have hands-on experience with validation plans, GD&T, and bolted joint concepts for four-stroke engines.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related engineering discipline.
  • 5+ years of engineering experience supporting complex mechanical products or systems.
  • 2+ years of direct experience interacting with and supporting service and manufacturing teams.
  • Experience with current production products and cross-functional collaboration with manufacturing, quality, purchasing, service, supplier quality, and product development teams.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze, evaluate, troubleshoot, and resolve product issues escalated via CPRs (Customer Priority Requests).
  • Conduct, support, and manage mechanical component design and development projects.
  • Provide consultation, support, and expertise with the manufacturing team to evaluate quality issues and develop process improvements.
  • Develop component/system test plans, write test requests, and execute, validate, and revalidate product components.
  • Collaborate with CAD designers and test technicians on design and test projects.

Position Overview: Mercury Marine Current Product Engineering group offers a unique, challenging, and rewarding work environment that fosters individual growth and rewards performance in designing components to support the recreational and commercial marine industries. This position is particularly focused on improving the quality, functionality, and performance of our current propulsion product line.

Essential Functions
  • Analyze, evaluate, troubleshoot, and resolve product issues escalated via CPRs (Customer Priority Requests)
  • Conduct, support, and manage mechanical component design and development projects
  • Provide consultation, support, and expertise in collaboration with the manufacturing team to evaluate and resolve quality issues as well as develop process improvements
  • Develop component/system test plans, write test requests, and execute, validate, and revalidate product components
  • Collaborate with and provide directions to CAD designers and test technicians assigned to your design and test projects
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related engineering discipline.
  • 5+ years of engineering experience supporting complex mechanical products or systems.
  • 2+ years of direct experience interacting with and supporting service and manufacturing teams
  • Experience supporting current production products and working cross-functionally with manufacturing, quality, purchasing, service, supplier quality, and product development teams.
  • Experience developing and executing validation plans.
  • Working knowledge of engineering drawings, GD&T, tolerance analysis, and mechanical assemblies.
  • Advanced knowledge of four stroke engines and bolted joint construction
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with marine propulsion systems, engines, powertrain systems, or similar mechanical products.
  • Experience investigating field failures, warranty concerns, and manufacturing quality issues.
  • Experience with reliability, durability, and validation testing.
  • Experience using structured problem‑solving methodologies such as 8D, DMAIC, Six Sigma, DFMEA, or similar tools.
  • Experience or knowledge of the marine/boating industry. This includes the application of parts within marine environment (saltwater)
  • Experience interpreting test data and failure analysis results to identify root causes.
  • Ability to take on new opportunities and tough challenges with a sense of urgency, energy, and enthusiasm
  • Ability to hold self and others accountable to meet commitments
  • Ability to develop and deliver clear, concise communications that convey shared understanding across multiple groups
  • Ability to resolve conflicts in an effective, professional manner
  • Ability to build partnerships and work collaboratively with others to meet shared objectives
  • Ability to make strong and timely decisions that keep projects or teams moving forward

The anticipated pay range for this position is 86,500 – 126,800, annually. The actual base pay offered will vary depending on multiple factors including job‑related knowledge/skills, relevant experience, business needs, and geographic location. In addition to base pay, this position is eligible for an annual discretionary bonus.

At Brunswick, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top end of the salary range for their role. Compensation decisions are dependent upon the specifics of the candidate’s qualifications and the business context.
