Job summary

LiquidPiston is seeking a Senior Engine Sealing Engineer with expertise in rotary engine sealing systems. You will lead design, development, and validation, applying tribology, materials science, and dynamic simulation to optimize performance under demanding conditions.

You will collaborate with manufacturing and engineering teams, conduct hands-on testing, and communicate technical results clearly. A strong track record in R&D projects is valued.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of design, development and validation of ICE power cylinder ring packs and cylinder bores.
• Master's degree preferred.
• Proficiency with advanced engineering simulation tools (FEA/CFD) and specialized Ring Dynamics software.
• Deep understanding of high-temperature materials science and their use in severe engine environments.
• Experience with surface treatments or coatings for friction reduction and wear resistance.

Responsibilities

• Lead rotary engine sealing system design and refinement, including Apex Seals and Face Seals.
• Contribute to journal bearing design, materials selection and optimization.
• Apply tribology principles to minimize friction and wear; optimize lubrication.
• Develop and utilize 1D/3D dynamic models to analyze motion, pressure, leakage and flutter.
• Specify materials and collaborate with manufacturing on component specs.
• Apply FEA to assess thermal distortion and structural integrity of seals and housings.
• Design, execute and analyze engine test plans focused on seal performance and durability.
• Troubleshoot sealing-related engine issues identified during dyno testing and field trials.
• Communicate findings clearly to stakeholders.
