Job summary

Merck & Co., Inc. seeks a Process Engineer - Energy & Sustainability to drive energy, emissions, and waste reduction at the Elkton site.

You will apply core process engineering principles to troubleshoot, model, and optimize utilities, manufacturing processes, and wastewater systems. The role requires a Bachelor's in engineering and at least five years of related experience, with familiarity in GMP/FDA environments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Mechanical, or Industrial Engineering required.
• Minimum of five (5) years of process engineering or energy/sustainability optimization experience.
• Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills with ability to influence cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

• Technical Process Optimization: model, troubleshoot, and optimize site utilities, manufacturing, and wastewater systems using mass/energy balances and thermodynamics.
• Conduct energy audits, pinch analyses, and efficiency assessments of steam, chilled water, and compressed air systems.
• Explore, evaluate, and pilot emerging green technologies and decarbonization strategies at the Elkton site.
• Capital Projects & Design Engineering: collaborate on FEED, ROI analyses, and business cases for sustainability projects.
• Coordinate LEED certification efforts and provide standards interpretation for project teams.
