Job summary

Abraxas Energy Consulting, LLC, a Hillmann Consulting, LLC subsidiary, seeks an Energy Engineer to lead energy and water assessments nationwide. You will conduct field investigations, analyze building performance, and develop energy-saving recommendations for diverse facilities.

The role requires strong technical, analytical, and communication skills, with the ability to independently perform ASHRAE Level 2 audits and collaborate with project teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or another STEM field with 3+ years of experience performing substantially all of the responsibilities identified in this job posting, OR an Associate degree in a technical, math, or science field with 5-10+ years of experience performing substantially all of the responsibilities identified in this job posting.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Experience with energy audits, building mechanical and electrical systems, controls, and energy-use analysis
• Experience preparing technical reports and presenting findings to clients

Responsibilities

• Lead ASHRAE Level 2 energy audits and water assessments
• Conduct facility surveys of commercial, multifamily, industrial, and energy‑intensive buildings
• Perform retro‑commissioning, measurement & verification activities, and field diagnostics
• Deploy and utilize monitoring equipment, data loggers, meters, and testing instruments
• Analyze utility data, field measurements, building systems, and control strategies
• Identify and evaluate energy conservation measures and water‑saving opportunities
• Develop cost estimates, life‑cycle cost analyses, and implementation recommendations
• Prepare technical reports, presentations, and scopes of work
• Present findings to clients and project stakeholders
• Review the work of junior team members and provide mentorship and training
• Support business development efforts through technical input on proposals and client opportunities
• Assist with continuous improvement of company tools, processes, resources, and training materials
