Job summary

Blue Cross NC is seeking a Senior Counsel - Employment to provide strategic legal guidance on complex employment matters and lead a team within the Legal Department. You will partner with senior leadership and subsidiaries to support business objectives and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school
• 8+ years of relevant legal experience

Responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day employment law counseling on hiring, performance management, employee discipline, terminations, accommodations, leaves of absence, wage and hour compliance, workplace investigations, employee relations, and state-specific employment law mandates.
• Ensures compliance with federal and state employment laws, including Title VII, ADA, FMLA, FLSA, ADEA, and state-specific requirements.
• Drafts, reviews, and updates employment-related policies, handbooks, and procedures.
• Advises and counsels Company Officers and senior management on diverse employment law issues and risks.
• Supervises litigation and oversees EEOC charges related to employment matters.
• Represents the Company before regulatory authorities and negotiates settlements of disputes.
• Leads policy development, due diligence for corporate transactions, and risk assessments.
• Coaches and mentors Legal Department staff and coordinates with other departments.
