Job summary

Blue Cross NC is seeking a Senior Counsel - Employment to provide strategic legal guidance on complex employment law matters, supporting senior leadership and subsidiaries. The role emphasizes risk management, policy development, and regulatory compliance across federal and state laws.

You will lead employment-related litigation, negotiate settlements, and advise on corporate transactions while shaping the company’s approach to employment law and workforce strategy.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
• 8+ years of relevant legal experience.
• Licensed to practice law in applicable jurisdictions.

Responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day employment law counseling on hiring, performance, discipline, terminations, leaves of absence, wage and hour compliance, investigations and employee relations.
• Ensure compliance with federal and state employment laws (Title VII, ADA, FMLA, FLSA, ADEA, and state laws).
• Draft, review, and update employment policies, handbooks, and procedures.
• Advise senior leadership and Company Officers on employment law issues and risk management.
• Supervise employment-related litigation and EEOC matters; respond to complaints and information requests.
• Negotiate severance and settlement agreements; assist with corporate transactions and due diligence.
• Provide training on timely legal issues and represent the Company before regulatory authorities.
• Lead practice area teams and coach department members; participate in policy development and program implementation.
