Job summary

Aecon, a leading infrastructure firm based in New Jersey, seeks a Legal Counsel, Employment Law to provide business-focused employment law guidance across the United States. The role supports HR, operations, and project teams with compliance, investigations, employee relations, and policy development.

The successful candidate will balance risk with operational needs, draft practical policies, and help create scalable nationwide practices.

Qualifications

• Minimum 4 years of employment law experience.
• ABA-accredited law degree required; NJ Bar admission preferred.
• Experience in both law firm and in-house settings preferred.
• Experience advising on discrimination, harassment, retaliation, whistleblower matters, and investigations.
• Experience advising on terminations, leaves, performance management, wage and hour compliance, policies, and employment-related agreements.
• Experience managing employment litigation, agency charges, and outside counsel.
• Experience advising on multi-state employment law issues and nationwide policies.

Responsibilities

• Provide timely, practical advice on federal and multi-state employment law requirements.
• Advise on terminations, performance management, leaves, accommodations, wage/hour, and covenants.
• Draft, review, and update personnel policies and agreements; support policy updates.
• Partner with HR and leaders to ensure compliant practices across jurisdictions.
• Advise on investigations and employee relations matters, including discipline and terminations.
• Manage employment litigation, agency charges, and outside counsel collaborations.
• Develop and deliver employment law training for managers and HR staff.
