Job summary

Aecon U.S. seeks a Counsel to join its growing U.S. legal team in Mount Laurel, NJ. You will report to the Associate General Counsel for U.S. Operations, handling commercial contracts and legal risk across Nuclear, Industrial and Engineering Services lines.

The role requires a JD, bar admission, and 4+ years of relevant experience, with in-house construction sector exposure. Travel to other Aecon sites may be required.

Qualifications

• JD and bar admission in at least one state, with eligibility for New Jersey in-house licensure.
• 4+ years of relevant commercial legal experience; 2+ years at a law firm and 2+ years in-house with a construction company.
• Experience in construction law, commercial litigation, and contracts law preferred.
• Experience with export controls (e.g., 10 CFR Part 810) and/or federal government contracts is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Negotiate project contracts, subcontracts and other commercial agreements for Aecon's U.S. operations.
• Advise project teams and business line management on legal implications of decisions.
• Provide counsel to bid and proposal teams on commercial risks and mitigations.
• Assist project teams in anticipating and responding to commercial claims during performance.
• Work with outside counsel when appropriate; travel to other Aecon offices/sites as needed.
