Job summary

Karman Industries in Gardena, California, is seeking a Staff Embedded Systems Engineer to design, develop, and qualify control electronics for energy conversion systems. You will work across hardware, embedded software, and power electronics, applying first-principles thinking and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to deliver the Karman Heat Processing Unit.

Qualifications

• Degree in electrical, software, or controls engineering with specialization in power electronics.
• 6+ years of embedded systems design experience, including MV systems and grid control.
• Familiarity with SIL/HIL methodologies and tools such as Typhoon HIL, Opal-RT, or Speedgoat.
• Hands-on experience with SiC power devices and modules.
• Expert knowledge of electrical test equipment and safe handling of high-power systems.
• Self-motivated, high performer with strong communication and multitasking abilities.

Responsibilities

• Design and deploy advanced controls for LV and MV power conversion systems.
• Develop sensing and regulation systems for MV power, including AC and DC.
• Design and implement grid-forming and active front-end control strategies for bidirectional power flow.
• Build and validate a high-fidelity HIL platform to enable design iteration.
• Collaborate across disciplines to develop all aspects of the Karman Heat Processing Unit.
• Propose novel solutions and challenge the status quo.
• Develop analytical, first-principles models to assess hardware performance and limits.
