Job summary

ATSER Systems, Inc. in Houston, TX, seeks a Senior Embedded Systems Architect to design a vendor-agnostic gateway that links industrial balances and measurement devices to mobile, desktop, and cloud-based LIMS via standardized interfaces.

You will develop firmware for STM32/ESP32, implement RS232/USB/Bluetooth/WiFi, reverse engineer vendor protocols, and build a modular driver framework while ensuring EMI/EMC and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of embedded firmware development experience.
  • Expert-level C/C++ skills.
  • Hands-on experience with STM32 or ESP32 platforms.
  • Proficient with UART/RS232/USB, Bluetooth LE, and WiFi communications.
  • Experience reverse engineering and integrating vendor communication protocols.
  • Familiar with embedded RTOS, Git, secure boot, hardware cryptography, and OTA firmware updates.
  • Experience with laboratory instrumentation, LIMS integration, SCPI, Modbus, USB HID/CDC, and mobile device communication.
  • Database experience with SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, or similar systems.
  • Ability to work with C#, Python, C++, and Visual Basic .NET.
  • Experience with PLC communications, OPC UA, industrial automation systems, barcode scanners, label printers, and electronic test equipment.
  • Knowledge of ISO 17025, FDA 21 CFR Part 11, GMP.
  • Solution architecture experience for embedded systems in enterprise environments.
  • Strong knowledge of SOA, microservices, and RESTful API development.
  • Experience with AWS/Azure, Kubernetes, VMware.
  • Background in Linux/Windows/UNIX, system administration, and CI/CD.
  • Networking concepts: DNS, DHCP, VPNs, LB, firewalls, TCP/IP.
  • BS in Electronics/EE/CE or related field.
  • 3-5 years integrating electronic instruments with computer systems.
  • Understanding electronic measurement systems and laboratory weighing systems.
  • Ability to read electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.

Responsibilities

  • Design embedded hardware architecture for a vendor-agnostic laboratory instrument gateway.
  • Develop firmware for STM32 or ESP32-based solutions.
  • Implement communication support for RS232, USB, Bluetooth LE, and WiFi.
  • Reverse engineer vendor protocols and integrate them into our platform.
  • Build a modular driver framework for laboratory instruments.
  • Design secure over-the-air firmware update mechanisms.
  • Create local buffering logic to handle intermittent connectivity.
  • Develop APIs used by Android, iOS, Windows, and web applications.
  • Prototype, test, and validate laboratory instrument integrations.
  • Partner with software engineers to define standardized measurement payloads and APIs.
  • Help ensure EMI/EMC, FCC, and CE compliance for production devices.

Must have:
  • We need at least 8 years of embedded firmware development experience.

  • A bachelor's degree in Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, or a related discipline is required.
  • We require 3-5 years of experience integrating electronic instruments with computer systems.
  • You should understand electronic measurement systems and have experience with laboratory balances or industrial weighing systems.
  • You must be able to read electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills are essential.
