Job summary

Serve Robotics is seeking a seasoned software engineer to design and maintain robotics middleware and real-time application software in C++ on embedded Linux. You will own key components, optimize performance, and work across robotics hardware and software teams to ensure reliability across the fleet.

You will collaborate with Autonomy and Systems Engineering on safety, tracing, and deployment, while mentoring peers and contributing to scalable architectures for robotic deliveries.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience in a technical discipline.
• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience with modern C++ (C++17+).
• Experience in embedded Linux environments and systems programming.
• Strong understanding of multithreading, IPC, concurrency, and real‑time requirements.
• Experience profiling, optimizing, and debugging embedded software for performance and reliability.
• Proven ability to own complex software components from design to deployment.
• Strong problem-solving and cross‑functional collaboration skills.
• Experience with robotics middleware or distributed systems is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and maintain robotics middleware and application frameworks in C++ on embedded Linux.
• Own platform components from design through deployment and operation across the robot fleet.
• Collaborate with software teams to improve reliability, performance, and developer experience.
• Work with Autonomy and Systems Engineering on risk analyses and safety-related software considerations.
• Develop instrumentation, logging, and fleet-level metrics to monitor system health.
• Diagnose complex system-level issues across software and hardware boundaries.
• Contribute to architectural decisions and engineering standards.
• Provide guidance and mentorship to other engineers.
