Job summary

1st Avenue Power (1AP) seeks an experienced Senior Embedded Software Engineer to architect and build the Embedded layer of a next-generation utility-scale power system. You will lead initial architectural decisions, from the communication stack to cloud telemetry, in a high-agency role with no legacy debt.

Responsibilities include hardware interfacing, board bring-up, real-time control in embedded Linux/RTOS, and safety-critical logic for fault detection.

Qualifications

• BS or MS in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
• Proficiency in modern C/C++, with preference for Rust or Go in high-concurrency systems.

Responsibilities

• System Integration: design and deploy software for supervisory control, OTA updates, telemetry, and self-test protocols across subsystems.
• Hardware Interfacing: develop low-level drivers and stacks for power electronics using RS232/RS485, Modbus RTU, and CANbus.
• Lead board bring-up and hardware-firmware integration from power-on to full functionality.
• Evaluate microcontrollers and peripherals for system performance.
• Architect and maintain device infrastructure: secure bootloaders, automated firmware provisioning, diagnostics.
• Safety-Critical Logic: engineer high-reliability monitoring for arc fault detection and thermal management.
• Architecture: own initial Linux-based gateway decisions from a clean slate.
• Real-Time Control: develop and debug real-time software in embedded Linux and RTOS.
• Validation: emphasize unit testing, SIL, and HIL testing.
• Collaboration: work with hardware teams to optimize low-latency control in high-noise DC environments.
