Job summary

1st Avenue Power (1AP) seeks a Senior Embedded Software Engineer to architect and build the embedded layer of a next-generation utility-scale power system in a hybrid Bay Area setting. You will own initial architectural decisions from the communication stack to cloud telemetry.

You will lead board bring-up, develop low-level drivers for power electronics, implement secure bootloaders, real-time control in embedded Linux/RTOS, and drive test-driven development with SIL and HIL.

Qualifications

• BS or MS in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
• 5+ years hands-on embedded systems experience with physical hardware products.
• Experience with board bring-up, bootloaders, kernel/driver development on embedded Linux/RTOS.

Responsibilities

• Design and deploy software for supervisory control, OTA updates, telemetry, and self-test protocols across solar, storage, and load subsystems.
• Develop low-level drivers and communication stacks (RS232/RS485, Modbus RTU, CANbus).
• Lead board bring-up and hardware–firmware integration from power-on to full functionality.
• Architect robust device infrastructure including secure bootloaders and firmware provisioning.
• Develop real-time software in embedded Linux/RTOS and support test-driven development (SIL/HIL).
• Collaborate with hardware teams to ensure low-latency control in high-noise DC environments.
