Job summary

1st Avenue Power seeks a Senior Embedded Software Engineer to architect and build the Embedded layer of a next-generation utility-scale power system in the SFO Bay Area. You will own architectural decisions from the communication stack to cloud telemetry, enabling fast, reliable energy solutions.

This role focuses on real-time software in embedded Linux/RTOS, hardware-software co-design, safety-critical logic, and test-driven development with SIL/HIL.

Qualifications

• BS or MS in Electrical/Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
• Proficiency in modern C/C++, with strong preference for Rust or Go in high-concurrency systems.
• 5+ years of hands-on experience in embedded systems with complex hardware from prototype to production.
• Embedded fundamentals: board bring-up, bootloaders, kernel/driver development on embedded Linux or RTOS.
• Power electronics experience: control and monitoring of inverters, converters, BMS, and related protocols.

Responsibilities

• Design and deploy software solutions for supervisory control, OTA updates, telemetry, and self-test protocols across subsystems.
• Develop low-level drivers and communication stacks for RS232/RS485, Modbus RTU, and CANbus.
• Lead board bring-up and hardware-firmware integration from power-on to full functionality.
• Evaluate microcontrollers and peripherals for system performance.
• Architect secure bootloaders, firmware provisioning, and system diagnostics.
• Develop high-reliability monitoring for arc fault detection and thermal management.
• Own initial Linux gateway/communication layer architecture from a clean slate.
• Develop and debug real-time software in embedded Linux/RTOS.
