Job summary

Empo Health in San Bruno, CA is seeking a Senior Embedded Software Engineer (Firmware / Embedded Linux) to own and advance the software stack for the Empo Footprint in-home health monitor.

You will work with a small team, design reliable multithreaded components, and collaborate across hardware, software, and QA to bring features from concept to production, including hardware bring-up and regulatory‑ready documentation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s in EE/CE/CS.
• Minimum 10 years direct firmware/embedded experience.
• Self-starter with ownership mentality.
• Strong collaboration with cross-functional teams.
• Excellent written and verbal communication.
• Led firmware projects or features.
• Experience on Linux-based embedded platforms.
• Yocto/OpenEmbedded experience.
• Board bring-up and I2C/SPI/I2S familiarity.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and improve the C++ application driving the Empo Footprint scale UI and hardware interface.
• Design thread-safe, multithreaded components with proper synchronization.
• Collaborate with Electrical, Mechanical, and Test teams for hardware integration.
• Debug field issues, reproduce issues, instrument code, and deliver fixes.
• Develop automation, test, and build tooling using Python and/or Bash.
• Write/maintain user-space code in C/C++ with solid design principles.
• Support manufacturing and lab debugging activities.
• Improve software observability with logging, metrics, and version reporting.
• Participate in code reviews and establish scalable architecture.
• Contribute to embedded Linux platform work.
• Document software architecture and test strategy for a regulated medical-device environment.
• Continue support of third-party OTA updater and device monitor.
