Job summary

Carnegie Mellon University’s Software Engineering Institute in Pittsburgh seeks a Senior Embedded Software Engineer to lead development of Navy-critical maintenance and readiness applications across afloat and ashore environments.

You will guide architecture, analyze legacy code, mentor a team, and collaborate with Navy PEOs, PMOs, and contractors to deliver secure, high-performance software that supports national defense and mission readiness.

Qualifications

  • BS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field with extensive embedded software experience.
  • 10+ years of relevant experience or 8+ years with MS or 5+ years with PhD.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and implementing complex embedded software architectures.

Responsibilities

  • Lead software development from concept through deployment for Navy-critical systems.
  • Provide technical leadership and architecture analysis across the lifecycle.
  • Collaborate with Navy PEOs, PMOs, and stakeholders to inform design decisions.
  • Mentor a team of developers and promote disciplined engineering practices.
  • Develop prototypes and demonstrations to support risk reduction and capability maturation.
