Job summary

Leidos is seeking a Senior Embedded Software Engineer to design, develop, integrate, and demonstrate mission-critical embedded software for missile defense systems in Huntsville, Alabama. The role emphasizes collaboration with integrated engineering teams, DevOps/CI‑CD, and high-quality software delivery.

Requirements include 8+ years in real-time embedded systems (6+ with a master’s), expert C/C++, RTOS experience, and DoD Secret clearance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field; GPA 3.0+.
• 8+ years of relevant experience or 6+ years with a master’s degree.
• 5+ years of real-time embedded systems in defense/aerospace.
• US Citizenship required; active DoD Secret clearance.
• Must reside in North Alabama / Huntsville area.
• Expert-level C/C++ for embedded systems.
• RTOS experience: VxWorks, Integrity, or FreeRTOS.
• Proficiency with ARM Cortex and/or RISC‑V processors.
• Experience with embedded debugging tools (JTAG, oscilloscopes).
• Knowledge of Agile, DevOps, CI/CD and test automation.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
• Ability to work independently and in a team.

Responsibilities

• Design and architecture across full-stack airborne system software; develop embedded software and conduct unit tests.
• Lead embedded software design, implementation, reviews, and debugging of systems.
• Apply SDLC best practices: requirements analysis, hardware compatibility, tools and product development.
• Introduce new tools and standards to enhance engineering practices.
• Mentor teammates and contribute to complex projects within strategy and execution plans.
• Identify improved workflows and AI-enabled development capabilities.
