Job summary

L3Harris Technologies is seeking a Senior Embedded Software Engineer in Camden, NJ. You will develop real-time embedded software for defense applications, collaborating across teams to translate requirements into reliable, maintainable code that runs on simulated and target hardware.

The role requires 6+ years in embedded software, hands-on RTOS experience, and a strong background in C/C++ with Python. Relocation support, a 9/80 schedule, and a competitive salary are offered.

Qualifications

  • U.S. citizenship and active DoD Secret clearance.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer/ Electrical Engineering or Computer Science.
  • 6+ years of experience in embedded software on simulated and target hardware.
  • Hands-on experience with real-time operating systems (Green Hills Integrity, VxWorks, etc.).
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Preferred: UML tools such as IBM Rhapsody or MagicDraw/Cameo; experience with device drivers and boards support packages.
  • Preferred: modern C++ techniques; information assurance/cryptography; NSA Type 1 or DO-178 qualifications.

Responsibilities

  • Translate requirements into reliable, maintainable embedded software for C5 and Cyber Solution Centers.
  • Provide subject matter expertise and guide other software engineers.
  • Investigate root causes and implement fixes with cross-functional teams.
  • Develop software for target hardware using C, C++, and Python.
  • Define hardware-software interfaces and overall system design.
  • Contribute to all SDLC phases: requirements, design, implementation, testing.
  • Create software test plans and technical documentation.
  • Use modeling tools and test equipment to prototype and assess results.
  • Participate in peer reviews and track defects.

Requirements
Must have:

  • Preferred qualifications include object-oriented design and implementation experience, along with exposure to software modeling and UML tools such as IBM Rhapsody or MagicDraw/Cameo.
  • Preferred qualifications include experience developing device drivers and board support packages for real-time embedded systems.
  • Preferred qualifications include familiarity with modern C++ techniques.
  • Preferred qualifications include experience in information assurance and/or cryptography.
  • Preferred qualifications include NSA Type 1 certification or other software certification experience such as DO-178.

  • We create software test plans, procedures, and other technical documentation.
  • We use modeling tools and equipment to gather operating data, run experiments, prototype solutions, and assess results.
  • We participate in peer reviews and identify, track, and correct defects.
  • We develop embedded real-time software primarily in C, C++, and Python.
