Job summary

Moog invites a Senior Embedded Software Engineer to join our Space and Defense Group in Santa Barbara, CA. You will design, develop, test, and integrate real-time embedded software for turreted weapons systems and subsystems, collaborating across hardware, firmware, and systems teams.

The role requires 5+ years in embedded real-time software, RTOS or embedded Linux, C programming, and hardware familiarity; travel ~10–15%; eligibility for U.S. security clearance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree in Electrical, Computer, or Software Engineering or related field.
• Real-time embedded software development experience with RTOS or embedded Linux.
• Strong C programming and hardware/software integration skills.
• Experience with communication protocols and reading schematics.

Responsibilities

• Design, code, debug, and integrate new capabilities for turreted weapons systems.
• Debug issues with existing systems and ensure robust performance.
• Integrate software in Systems Integration Lab and field environments.
• Architect scalable, modular software meeting performance requirements.
• Deliver executable software and accompanying documentation.
• Provide status reporting to management during projects.

We’re looking for a Senior Embedded Software Engineer to join our team in Moog’s Space and Defense Group. This position follows a 9/80 work schedule, which provides every other Friday off! Moog’s Santa Barbara Operations provides sub-systems and components for every mission critical system on a modern military vehicle. Our heritage is in electrohydraulic and electromechanical actuation systems and now, through acquisitions and internal development, Moog provides expert solutions in: Stabilized Turret Drive Systems Integrated Weapon Systems (full turret from mechanical design to fire control electronics and software) Ammunition Handling Data Control and Distribution Power Management and Distribution To be considered for the Senior Embedded Software Engineer role, here’s what you’ll typically need to bring with you:

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical, Computer, or Software Engineering desired.
• Bachelor of Science degree in other engineering fields may be considered with appropriate additional experience in the design/development/test of real-time control software.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in the design/development/test of embedded real-time control software.
• 7+ years of relevant technical experience preferred.
• C language (java a plus) OS experience, especially RTOS (bare metal and embedded Linux a plus)
• Experience with communication protocol drivers and stacks (networking, 1553, UART, SPI, I2C, etc.)
• Read and understand electronic part data sheets, electrical schematics, communication protocol documents.
• Experience in Unix internals, low level driver software, communication interface software as well as GUI software is a plus.
• Ability to travel approximately 10-15%.
• Must have the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance.

Responsibilities

• Design, code, debug, and integrate new capabilities for our new and existing turreted weapons systems (RIwP)
• Debug issues with existing systems
• Integration of new capabilities both in the Systems Integration Lab and in the field.
• Design and architect software that meets scalability, performance and modularity requirements
• Deliver executable software that meets quality and performance requirements
• Deliver other software work products (documentation) that meet contractual requirements
• Provide status reporting to management during project execution

Salary Range Transparency

Santa Barbara, CA $135,000.00–$185,000.00 Annually

Actual salaries will vary depending on factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. The range(s) listed is just one component of Moog's total compensation package for employees.
