Job summary

Twenty80 LLC seeks a Senior Embedded Software Engineer to contribute to advanced wireless communication systems. You will work across the full embedded stack, from low-level drivers to application-layer functionality, reporting to the Director of Software Engineering.

You will develop MAC/MANET components, security protocols, and network management tooling, while ensuring regulatory compliance and system robustness for government-related work.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field
  • 5+ years of embedded software development experience
  • Strong proficiency in C programming
  • Experience with Linux kernel and driver development
  • U.S. Citizenship required due to government contract restrictions
  • Ability to pass a background check

Responsibilities

  • Develop MAC and MANET routing protocol software components
  • Build and maintain network management software and web interfaces
  • Implement security protocols and encryption algorithms
  • Develop audio streaming and push-to-talk voice applications
  • Analyze and enhance product security to meet regulatory standards (e.g., FIPS 140-3, Common Criteria)
  • Create software for performance and reliability testing
  • Develop and maintain device drivers and BSPs for ARM and RISC-V
  • Customize Linux systems and develop supporting scripts

Job description

Role Summary

Our client, a company operating in the advanced communications and embedded systems space (including regulated government-related work), is seeking a Senior Embedded Software Engineer. This role reports to the Director of Software Engineering and involves contributing to the development of advanced wireless communication systems and research initiatives.

The position offers exposure across the full embedded stack, including low-level drivers, networking protocols, security/encryption, and application-level functionality.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop software components for MAC (Medium Access Control) and mobile ad-hoc networking (MANET) routing protocols
  • Build and maintain network management software and associated web interfaces
  • Implement security protocols and encryption algorithms
  • Develop audio streaming and push-to-talk voice applications
  • Analyze and enhance product security and robustness to meet regulatory standards (e.g., FIPS 140-3, Common Criteria)
  • Create software for performance and reliability testing
  • Develop and maintain device drivers and board support packages (BSP) for ARM and RISC-V platforms
  • Customize Linux systems and develop supporting scripts
Required Qualifications

  • Strong proficiency in C programming
  • Experience with Linux kernel and driver development

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with security protocols and encryption standards (e.g., CNSA suite)
  • Familiarity with socket programming and Internet/Ethernet protocols
  • Understanding of MAC and networking layers in communication systems
  • Experience with FPGA/SoC platforms (e.g., AMD UltraScale+, MPSoC, Microchip PolarFire) and BSP development
  • Knowledge of IPsec (Internet Protocol Security)
  • Experience developing Linux interrupt service routines
Compensation & Work Model
  • Salary range: $135,000 – $200,000, based on experience and qualifications
  • Hybrid work schedule with required onsite presence three days per week
  • Employment contingent on successful background check
  • Role subject to U.S. federal contractor employment eligibility requirements
