Job summary

John Deere is seeking a Senior Embedded Security Engineer to design, implement, and validate security controls for embedded devices at the Johnston, IA location. You will influence security architectures across embedded, cloud, and mobile features, ensuring resilience against threats and supporting autonomous systems development.

Requirements include 5+ years in embedded security, C/C++/Python proficiency, RTOS and Linux experience, and strong documentation skills.

Qualifications

• 5+ years experience in hands-on development and troubleshooting of embedded systems.
• Programming experience in C, C++ and Python.
• Experience with Real Time Operating Systems (RTOS), Linux and building concurrent systems.
• Strong documentation, writing, and communications skills.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and validate security controls for resource-constrained embedded devices, using cryptographic technologies such as HSMs and trusted execution environments.
• Define and review security architectures for embedded systems, influencing the design of new features (embedded, cloud and mobile) to ensure that our security needs can be met.
• Support penetration testing, vulnerability assessments, and security validation activities to identify weaknesses and improve product resilience.
• Support our teams developing the next generation of autonomous systems by designing and developing new security controls for those systems.
