Job summary

RTX in Middletown, RI is seeking an experienced embedded software engineer to join our DoD-grade real-time systems team. You will design, develop, test and integrate high‑performance RTOS-based software across heterogeneous platforms, CPUs and FPGAs, interfacing with sensors and control hardware.

You must have a STEM degree with several years of embedded C/C++ experience, knowledge of RTOS such as VxWorks or Wind River, and be eligible for a U.S. security clearance; travel up to 15% is required.

Qualifications

• Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 5 years experience, or an advanced degree with 3 years; or 9 years without a degree.
• Active Secret U.S. Government Security Clearance required on day one.
• Experience in Embedded C/C++ Software, High Performance Computers, Real‑Time Sensors/Control Applications, Software Architecture.
• Experience with embedded RTOS (Green Hills, Integrity, VxWorks, Linux, etc.).
• Experience integrating hardware, firmware and software on complex systems.
• Proficiency using C/C++.
• Willing to travel 10% to 15%.

Responsibilities

• Develop Linux and VxWorks real‑time software on embedded multi‑threaded platforms.
• Design, develop and test high‑performance embedded RTOS software across heterogeneous systems.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to test and analyze performance.
• Integrate components into larger systems for real‑world testing and deployment.
• Mentor less experienced staff and contribute to design reviews.
• Contribute to proposals and preliminary/critical design reviews.
