Job summary

Draper Labs in Cambridge, MA, seeks a Software Engineer (SMTS) to develop high-performance, fault-tolerant software for resource-constrained targets across diverse domains including undersea and space. You will participate in full SDLC, from requirements to delivery, mentoring junior engineers, and shaping system architecture.

Requires a bachelor’s in CS/CE/EE and 5–10 years in software engineering, with security clearances typical for this role.

Qualifications

• Requires a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering.
• Requires 5-10 years experience in Software Engineering or related.
• Applicants selected for this position will be required to obtain and maintain a government security clearance. Secret Clearance is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Evaluates requirements, proposes solutions, explores design trades to support a design.
• Designs algorithms using modern theory and proven techniques.
• Develops embedded software based on prototype algorithms with supervision.
• Analyzes designs to demonstrate performance and functionality.
• Develops and executes software tests to check compliance with requirements.
• Communicates with customers and stakeholders to establish requirements and describe the design and deliverables.
• Drives solutions to complex problems with limited direction — contributes to requirements development and architecture solution ideation.
• Has the ability to take responsibility for a subset of engineering scope.
• Identifies program/system-level technical risks and develops and executes mitigation strategies for them.
• Actively mentors less experienced engineers.
