Job summary

Formlabs is seeking an Embedded Engineering Manager to lead the firmware team responsible for cutting-edge printers. You will guide architecture, review code, and work hands-on on target hardware alongside engineers across electronics, mechanics, and software.

The role requires shipping production firmware, hiring and mentoring engineers, and driving a platform strategy that enables rapid product iteration from prototype to volume production. Expect collaboration across multi-disciplinary teams.

Qualifications

• Shipped production firmware in C/C++ for complex electromechanical products.
• Led embedded/firmware engineers, including hiring and performance management.
• Took multiple products from prototype to volume production and provided post-launch support.
• Comfortable from bare-metal microcontrollers to embedded Linux and multicore processors, with Python tooling.
• Brought up boards/peripherals (ADC, SPI, I2C, CAN, Ethernet); read schematics and debug with scopes/logic analyzers.

Responsibilities

• Own delivery of embedded firmware for current and upcoming printers; hit milestones and set quality standards.
• Stay hands-on: review architecture, debug on target hardware, and contribute code.
• Define direction for a shared embedded platform to enable reuse across printers.
• Hire and coach embedded engineers and address performance issues early.
• Collaborate with electrical, systems, mechanical, and software teams from bring-up to production; trace field issues to root cause.
• Build test automation, CI, and static analysis to ship firmware updates without breaking installed bases.
• Prioritize customer-focused work and reduce scope when needed.
