Job summary

Formlabs in Somerville, MA is seeking an Embedded Engineering Manager to lead the embedded software team responsible for firmware across Formlabs printers, from Form 4 to Fuse lines. You will shape platform direction and ensure reliable updates for a large installed base.

You’ll hire and coach engineers, review architectures, and partner with electrical, mechanical, and software teams from board bring-up to production.

Qualifications

• Shipped production firmware in C/C++ for complex electromechanical products.
• Experience leading embedded/firmware teams, hiring, and managing performance.
• Took multiple products from prototype to volume production.
• Comfortable with bare-metal MCUs to embedded Linux and multicore processors; Python for tooling and testing.
• Experience bringing up boards and peripherals (ADC, PWM, SPI, I2C, CAN, Ethernet) and debugging with scope/logic analyzer.
• Able to diagnose across several connected controllers using logs and trace data.
• Able to make decisions with incomplete information and explain impact on customers.

Responsibilities

• Own delivery of embedded firmware for current and upcoming printers; hit milestones and decide what ships.
• Stay hands-on: review architecture and code, debug on target hardware, write code when needed.
• Set direction for a shared embedded platform to maximize reuse across printers.
• Hire embedded engineers and coach them toward their best work.
• Partner with electrical, systems integration, mechanical and software teams from board bring-up through production.
• Build test automation, CI, and static analysis for safe firmware updates.
