Job summary

Cricut is seeking a senior embedded firmware engineer to design and debug software for bare‑metal microcontrollers, RTOS, System on Chip, and Single Board Computers. You will collaborate with hardware and product teams to derive technical requirements and bring up new boards.

You’ll write robust C/C++ code, tune PID controllers, analyze sensor data, and troubleshoot low‑level interfaces (USB, UART, SPI, I2C, PWM, GPIO).

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science (robotics/control emphasis preferred)
• 5+ years of embedded firmware experience or strong project/internship experience for new grads
• Strong C programming skills; C++ and/or Assembly exposure a plus
• Experience with bare‑metal microcontroller, FPGA, and Real Time Operating System development
• Experience with embedded solutions for electromechanical commercial electronics similar to Cricut’s products (die cutters, plotters, printers)
• Familiarity with electromechanical systems including actuators and precision control
• Strong troubleshooting and debugging skills for low‑level embedded systems
• Excellent communication, documentation, and teamwork skills
• Comfortable working both independently and in a collaborative environment

Responsibilities

• Develop and debug embedded firmware for bare‑metal MCU, RTOS, SoC, and SBC systems
• Collaborate with project and product management to derive technical requirements
• Bring up new boards with hardware engineering and assist production
• Analyze sensor data and apply signal processing to reduce noise
• Write control system code for actuators, including PID tuning and dynamic control
• Troubleshoot low‑level hardware interfaces (USB, UART, SPI, I2C, PWM, GPIO)
• Develop internal tools in C or C++ to aid testing and manufacturing
• Participate in code reviews, documentation, and revision control
• Support full product lifecycle across engineering teams
