Firestorm Labs is seeking a Firmware Engineer specializing in embedded platforms to advance avionics and flight-control firmware for next‑generation UAS. You will work cross‑functionally to ensure mission readiness through robust, secure, and maintainable software.

The role emphasizes hands-on development, verification, and field-ready solutions in a fast-paced environment based in San Diego, CA.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of embedded systems development.
• U.S. Citizenship and ability to obtain DoD security clearance.
• Proficient with Linux and Windows, strong CLI skills.
• Programming in Python, Bash, Shell, and C/C++ (embedded).

Responsibilities

• Develop and optimize low-level embedded software in C++, focusing on avionics and flight controllers.
• Port frameworks to new RTOSes and hardware platforms; create BSPs and HALs.
• Create peripheral drivers for interfaces like I2C, SPI, UART, ADC, and wireless.
• Collaborate with hardware teams to validate firmware with secure boot, watchdogs, and fault tolerance.
• Write and execute test plans, MISRA C compliance checks, and integration tests.
• Diagnose cross-domain issues across electromechanical, software, networking, and RF subsystems.
