Job summary

VIAVI Solutions Inc. is seeking an experienced embedded firmware engineer in Calabasas to design, develop and test firmware for high‑performance embedded systems. You will work with hardware teams to bring up boards, implement device drivers, and optimize RTOS components in C/C++.

Strong problem solving and collaboration skills are required. You will mentor junior engineers, contribute to firmware development processes, and stay current with emerging technologies in the field.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
• 7+ years of embedded firmware development experience.
• Proficiency in C/C++ for embedded systems development.
• Strong experience with RTOS such as FreeRTOS, VxWorks, or similar.
• Solid understanding of microcontroller/microprocessor architectures (e.g., ARM, MIPS).
• Experience with hardware‑software co‑design and debugging using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and in‑circuit emulators/debuggers.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and debug robust firmware for embedded systems, primarily in C/C++.
• Translate product requirements into firmware specifications and architectural designs.
• Implement and optimize device drivers and RTOS components and communication protocols.
• Conduct thorough unit, integration, and system‑level testing of firmware, including automated tests.
• Collaborate with hardware engineers during board bring‑up and debugging phases.
• Review code for quality, maintainability, and documentation, and mentor junior engineers.
