Job summary

Nidec Corporation in Eden Prairie, MN is seeking a Sr. Embedded Engineer to contribute to motor control electronics design, development and support across the product life cycle.

You will collaborate with manufacturing, PCB, software and application groups to optimize designs for cost and quality. The role requires experience with high-voltage power electronics, embedded C/assembly, RTOS, and diverse communication protocols.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or equivalent required.
• Experience in power electronics products; inverters, dc-dc converters and switching power supplies.
• Working knowledge of conditioning and sensing circuitry for adjustable speed drives.
• Proficient in C and assembly embedded coding.
• Experience with USB, SPI, I2C, UART, Modbus, CAN, Ethernet, TCP/IP, A/D and discrete I/O.
• Experience with RTOS.
• High voltage design experience up to 480Vac.
• Proficient with lab equipment (oscilloscopes, DVMs, etc).
• Strong troubleshooting skills for digital/analog circuits.
• Adherence to software development best practices.
• Self-motivated and organized; able to work independently or in a team.
• Desirable: SCR, TRIAC, IGBT, MOSFET knowledge; gate drivers; fly-back topologies.
• Knowledge of Code Composer Studio/Code Warrior; version control.
• Matlab and Simulink usage.
• Troubleshooting electro-mechanical test systems.
• Able to thrive in a fast-paced environment; strong analytical and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Support design and development of motor control electronics through all product life-cycle stages.
• Design motor control electronics from low voltage DC to 120/240Vac and 480Vac industrial products; create BOMs, schematics and drawings; oversee prototype and validation.
• Participate in design reviews; guide PCB layout; manage design verification and agency certification phases.
• Write design specifications; perform analysis and simulations; maintain project documentation.
• Collaborate with manufacturing to introduce designs into production on schedule; develop test specs and equipment.
• Coordinate with software, mechanical, motor design and application teams to optimize product designs for cost and quality.
• Support failure analysis with quality group and implement design/process improvements.
