Job summary

Quartermaster seeks a Senior Embedded Linux / Platform Software Engineer to own the embedded Linux platform on the SmartMast edge device fleet. You will integrate cameras, radar, SDR, AIS, GPS, and thermal sensors into a unified AI-enabled sensing system and ensure reliable edge-to-cloud data paths.

You’ll work at the intersection of hardware bringup, ROS2 middleware, and OTA fleet updates, delivering robust software for harsh maritime environments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in CS, Robotics, Electronics, EE, or related field.
• 4+ years in software development for robotics, embedded systems.
• Proficiency in Python, C++, and shell scripting; Rust is a bonus.
• Strong Linux background, Ubuntu preferred, with ROS/ROS2 experience.
• Experience with NVIDIA Jetson, CUDA, and Yocto.
• Sensor and hardware familiarity (GPS, IMU, cameras, radar) and drivers.

Responsibilities

• Own and evolve the embedded Linux platform for SmartMast edge devices.
• Integrate sensor interfaces across cameras, radar, SDR, AIS, GPS/GNSS, and thermal systems.
• Develop modular middleware and ROS2-based components for inter-sensor communication.
• Build and optimize edge AI inference pipelines under real compute constraints.
• Design edge-to-cloud data paths with latency and bandwidth efficiency.
• Manage OTA update workflows for fleet-deployed devices with rollback strategies.
• Troubleshoot field issues, perform root-cause analysis, and ship fixes.
• Collaborate with hardware and software teams to deploy from lab to sea.
