Job summary

Snap-on in Rochester Hills, MI is seeking a Sr. Design Engineer to lead diagnostic solutions across embedded, PC, and mobile platforms for heavy-duty vehicles. You will define architecture, drive integration, and deliver secure, high-quality products with cross-functional teams.

The role requires hands-on embedded software experience, vehicle communications, and leadership across engineering groups. On-site with standard weekday hours.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's in Electrical or Computer Engineering, CS or related field.
• 3-5 years in embedded systems, diagnostics, or automotive software.
• Strong C++ with multithreaded design experience.
• Experience developing API drivers and PC software in C/C++/.NET.
• Solid understanding of CAN, CAN FD, ISO 15765-2, UDS, J1939, DoIP.

Responsibilities

• Lead development of driver, firmware, and application software for vehicle devices.
• Define requirements, system architecture, and integration strategies across platforms.
• Develop and enhance API drivers aligned to RP1210, RP1227, and J2534.
• Ensure cybersecurity, safety, and regulatory compliance.
• Collaborate with OEMs, fleets, suppliers, and internal teams to deliver robust solutions.
• Provide technical leadership during development, testing, and deployments.
• Contribute to certification and compliance documentation.
