Job summary

Rivian and Volkswagen Group Technologies is seeking a dedicated Staff Body Controls Engineer to join our software development team in Irvine, CA. This role leads architecture and integration of vehicle lighting control systems and other closures, seating, and accessory devices.

The ideal candidate has a strong background in electrical or mechanical engineering, 7+ years in automotive controls, and proven leadership, mentoring junior engineers, and cross-functional collaboration to deliver robust

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master’s degree in electrical or mechanical engineering.
• 7+ years of experience with automotive control systems and leading projects.
• Strong embedded systems architecture and RTOS knowledge.
• Expertise in C and Python for scalable, maintainable code.
• Experience with Agile/Scrum and requirements management tools (JIRA/JAMA).
• Knowledge of FMEA and leading FMEA sessions.
• Willingness to travel up to 20%.

Responsibilities

• Lead architecture and development of advanced control systems for automotive lighting with feature sets.
• Refine requirements and produce high-level functional specifications.
• Develop validation strategy and calibration plans for features across toolchains.
• Create test cases and scripts for Unit, SIL, and HIL testing.
• Collaborate with controls engineers and cross-functional teams on models and simulations.
• Ensure software robustness and seamless feature integration.
• Troubleshoot cross-domain issues (physical, electrical, software).
• Oversee multiple projects, manage resources and budgets.
