Job summary

Alarm.com is seeking an embedded software engineer for the Device Engineering team to develop and improve the camera product line. You will design and test software across ARM and microcontrollers, create firmware and hardware abstraction layers, and collaborate with hardware and cloud teams in an agile environment.

The role requires 5–10 years of embedded Linux experience, C++, and familiarity with RTOS and various interfaces.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in CS or ECE or equivalent required.
• 5–10 years of embedded software development on Embedded Linux platforms.
• Professional experience with C++ and RTOS (FreeRTOS/ThreadX) and bare-metal.
• Experience with hardware interfaces (UART, SPI, I2C, CAN, Ethernet, etc.).
• Knowledge of build systems, firmware upgrades, and low-level debugging.
• Understanding of Bluetooth, BLE, Wi‑Fi, LoRa and security concepts.
• Experience with Git version control.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and test embedded software for camera platforms (ARM, microcontrollers, SoCs).
• Develop firmware and hardware abstraction layers to interface with sensors, modules, and peripherals.
• Collaborate with hardware engineers for board bring-up, integration, and troubleshooting.
• Collaborate with hardware engineers on camera performance, power management, and driver integration.
• Optimize software for performance, reliability, and resource usage.
• Develop and execute unit and integration tests, debug with oscilloscopes and debuggers.
• Document code, designs, and development processes.
• Support production, QA, and field teams in deployment and issue resolution.
• Assist in defining requirements and participate in design reviews.
• Work with cloud software teams to design device-cloud APIs and protocols.
• Partner with product managers and quality engineers to define technical requirements and system testing.
• Other duties as assigned.
