Job summary

ascendingdc seeks a Senior Observability Engineer (SME) to own ELK Stack observability for enterprise logs, metrics, and alerts. You will ensure reliability, scalability, and performance of our Elastic Stack platform, with heavy automation using Terraform and Ansible.

You will design data pipelines with Logstash and Filebeat, write scripts in Python or Bash, refine monitoring policies, and help define SLOs. This is a long-term contract (2+ years) with 100% remote work in the continental US.

Qualifications

• BS/MS in CS/Engineering or equivalent, or 5+ years of relevant experience.
• 4+ years with Dynatrace or ELK Stack as Admin/ SME/ Architect.
• Hands-on design of data pipelines using Logstash, and/or Fluentd/Fluentbit.
• Expert-level ELK Stack knowledge (Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana, Beats).
• Proficiency in scripting (Python, Bash, PowerShell) for automation.
• Strong Linux OS skills and ability to automate tasks.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and deploy monitoring and alerting on ELK Stack.
• Design and manage large-scale log aggregation with Elasticsearch and Logstash.
• Set up data ingestion pipelines using Filebeat, Logstash, or Fluentd.
• Develop automation to improve efficiency.
• Build monitoring using Elasticsearch, Kibana, Beats with proactive alerts.
• Document processes for audit and certification.
• Troubleshoot, capacity plan, and analyze ELK performance.
• Research observability requirements and implement needed code.
• Write scripts to meet observability needs.
