Job summary

The Missouri Division of Fire Safety / Office of the State Fire Marshal is seeking an Elevator and Amusement Ride Inspector to perform annual safety inspections and testing of elevators, escalators, moving walks, lifts, dumbwaiters and amusement rides to ensure public safety and compliance with state laws and codes.

The position requires residence in or relocation to Missouri counties (Jackson, Platte, Clay, Ray, Lafayette, Johnson, or Cass) within 90 days.

Qualifications

• Four years of experience in the mechanical and/or electrical trades, including at least one year that involved the design, installation, maintenance, repair, and/or inspection of elevators; and possession of a high school diploma or GED certificate.
• Post-secondary training or education in mechanical or electrical engineering, electronics or closely related area may substitute for up to two years of the stated general experience.

Responsibilities

• Identify potential inspection sites and locate unregistered elevator-related equipment.
• Inspect new, existing and altered elevator-related equipment for compliance.
• Investigate accidents or failures involving elevator-related equipment.
• Oversee independent state-licensed inspectors.
• Review plans of new/altered elevator-related equipment.
• Conduct informational seminars and review variance requests.
• Provide technical assistance to contractors, architects, engineers, equipment manufacturers, building owners and the public.
