Job summary

Missouri Division of Fire Safety / Office of the State Fire Marshal is seeking Elevator and Amusement Ride Inspectors to perform annual safety inspections of elevators, escalators, moving walks, lifts, dumbwaiters and amusement rides to ensure compliance with state laws and codes.

Applicants must be willing to relocate to specified Missouri counties within 90 days and meet certification requirements within two years. The role involves travel and detailed reporting to support public safety.

Qualifications

• Four years of experience in the mechanical and/or electrical trades, including at least one year that involved the design, installation, maintenance, repair, and/or inspection of elevators.
• High school diploma or GED certificate (additional post-secondary training may substitute for up to two years).
• Ability to possess ASME Qualified Elevator Inspector (QEI) Certificate within two years.
• Ability to possess NAARSO Level 1 certification or equivalent within two years.
• Ability to pass physical and psychological examinations.

Responsibilities

• Identify inspection sites and locate unregistered elevator-related equipment.
• Inspect new, existing and altered elevator-related equipment to ensure compliance.
• Investigate accidents or failures involving elevator-related equipment.
• Oversee independent state-licensed inspectors.
• Review plans of new/altered elevator-related equipment.
• Conduct informational seminars and review variance requests.
