Job summary

County of Los Angeles ISD seeks an Electronics Communications Technician to install, maintain, repair, and troubleshoot radio communications equipment across multiple sites. You will be responsible for field work, coordinating with vendors, and ensuring safety standards are met.

Who We Are:

The Internal Services Department (ISD) plays a major role in supporting all County of Los Angeles departments and commissions. With an annual budget of over $905 million and 2,158 budgeted positions along with over 5,120 contracted workers of varying professions in facilities management, information technology, environmental, administrative, purchasing and contracting. Assigns, leads, and inspects the work of Electronics Communications Technicians engaged in the maintenance, repair, testing, configuration, and installation of fixed, mobile, and portable radio communications and related equipment.

Lays out jobs and estimates labor and material requirements.

Provides assistance for the more complex trouble calls and installations and follows up to ensure that problems are resolved.

Confers and consults with vendors and other County department representatives regarding operational problems, repair, maintenance, and installation of radio communications and related equipment.

Provides instruction in work techniques, equipment operation, and technological developments.

Ensures compliance with safety regulations, and that safe work practices are observed.

Requests for and orders parts and supplies as needed.

Keepstime, material, and servicerecords.

Performs the work of an Electronics Communications Technician.

Drives automotive equipment to and from work sites.

Requirements to Qualify:

Two years of journey-level* experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of radio communications transmitting and receiving equipment.

*Journey-level experience is defined as possessing the required knowledge, skills, and training to perform a full-range and diversity of work independently and reliably. Positions at this level operate with fairly significant freedom from day-to-day supervision and need little or no guidance on such matters as selecting appropriate problem-solving methods and techniques, locating appropriate regulations, or applying proper procedures to carry out work.

LICENSE:

A valid California Class C Driver License is required to perform job-related essential functions.

A General Radiotelephone Operator License issued by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).

Successful applicants for positions that require driving must obtain and present a copy of his/her driving record from the California State Department of Motor Vehicles before final appointment. Applicants should not present a copy of their driving history until asked to do so by the hiring department. The County will make an individualized assessment of whether an applicant's driving history has a direct or adverse relationship with the specific duties of the job. License must not be currently suspended, restricted, or revoked.

PHYSICAL CLASS:

Moderate: This class requires that the incumbent stand or walk most of the time with bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, reaching, working on irregular surfaces, occasional lifting of objects weighing over 25 pounds, and frequent lifting of 10-25 pounds.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

VISION: Vision and color perception must be adequate to effectively and safely perform essential job-related functions.

Our Assessment Process:

If you meet the requirements, we will invite you to participate in a structured interview covering training, knowledge and experience, and interpersonal skills weighted at 100%. You must achieve a passing score of 70% or higher on the assessment in order to be placed on the Eligible List.
