Job summary

County of Los Angeles is seeking a candidate to support Information Technology operations within the public sector. The role involves assisting engineers and staff with routine IT tasks, documenting issues, and helping ensure smooth IT service delivery for residents and county operations.

Qualified applicants will have clerical IT experience, ability to resolve common IT problems, and capability to document procedures.

Qualifications

  • Two (2) years of full-time equivalent experience of highly specialized clerical work within the last five (5) years, involving information technology including use or installation of desktop software.
  • Experience with installing, moving, adding, configuring, and decommissioning desktop software products and hardware as a regular function.
  • Ability to document, track, and resolve IT-related user issues.

Responsibilities

  • Provide routine IT support to staff and users, including testing and validation of user manuals and instructions.
  • Document and track user problems and calls, and assist in problem resolution.
  • Assist with password resets and routine IT tasks to ensure service continuity.
  • Capture and retain system documentation such as flow diagrams, screen and report samples, and processing instructions.
  • Assist in preparing reports, charts, and data summaries for staff analysis.
  • Help train personnel on new user screens and office systems.
  • Provide IT guidance to departmental personnel as needed.
  • Assist in installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of IT devices.

We are searching for a team member who is:
  • Highly motivated individual with a passion for supporting engineers in advancing Information Technology within the public sector to improve services for residents. Diligent in performing routine information systems tasks to ensure smooth operations.
  • Capable of providing effective solutions to common user or system-related issues, ensuring efficient functionality of services and organization.

Works in conjunction with professional IT engineers to ensure that our organization's efforts for community improvement and better quality of life continues uninterrupted by:

  • Providing support to professional information technology staff by performing routine systems testing, including validating user manuals, procedures and other instructional materials.
  • Providing support to systems customers and/or to departmental staff for IT issues by documenting, and tracking user problem calls.
  • Responding to routine information technology related problems such as issuing or resetting customer passwords.
  • Capturing and retaining systems documentation including: flow diagrams, screen and report samples, error messages and processing instructions.
  • Extracting and summarizing report data; compiles statistics and prepares reports for staff analysis; prepares charts, graphs and forms as assigned.
  • Assisting in providing training to personnel in the use of new user screens, procedural on-line job instructions and other office systems.
  • Providing IT guidance to departmental personnel as needed.
  • Assisting in the installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of information technology devices.

REQUIREMENTS TO QUALIFY

Two (2) years, full-time equivalent experience of highly specialized* clerical experience** within the last five (5) years, involved with information technology including the use or installation of desktop software.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT INFORMATION

*Highly specialized clerical experience for this exam is defined as either: performing basic information technology tasks, including installing, moving, adding, configuring, and decommissioning desktop software products and hardware, such as computers, operating systems, printers, fax machines, and scanners, as a regular function of the position; or providing customer service through help desk support and interacting directly with users to identify and resolve hardware, software, and network‑related issues.

**Experience is evaluated on the basis of a verifiable 40-hour week. Part‑time experience is credited on a part‑time ratio, i.e., working 20 hours per week for two months equals one month of experience.

ENDORSEMENT OF COUNTY QUALIFICATION

If you performed work that differs from the duties described in your class specification and believe you qualify for this opportunity, please provide verification via official documentation of additional responsibility bonus, out-of‑class bonus, temporary assignment bonus or reclassification study with CEO Classification within seven (7) calendar days from the last day of filing. Employees do not need to submit such verification if they hold or have held a position that regularly performs functions in alignment with the requirements.

LICENSE

A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job‑related essential functions.

PHYSICAL CLASS

2 - Light. This class includes administrative and clerical positions requiring light physical effort that may include occasional light lifting to a 10 pound limit and some bending, stooping, or squatting. Considerable ambulation may be involved.

EXAM REVIEW

MULTIPLE-CHOICE AND SIMULATION ASSESSMENTS ARE NOT REVIEWABLE BY CANDIDATES, PER CIVIL SERVICE RULE 7.19.

Test scores cannot be given over the telephone.
