Job summary

Socket.dev is seeking an Electronic Systems Controls Technical Specialist in Columbus, IN, to design, calibrate, and validate electronic controls and virtual sensors for Cummins’ programs. You will translate requirements into robust control strategies and diagnostics, collaborating across hardware, software, and testing teams to deliver high-quality engine and powertrain solutions.

Responsibilities include system modeling, calibration tool development, and conducting GT-POWER/MATLAB simulations

Qualifications

• Master's degree in a engineering discipline required.
• 5+ years of engineering experience in controls or mechatronics preferred.
• Strong proficiency in MATLAB/Simulink and Controls Engineering is required.
• Experience with test cell, vehicle, and bench testing including HIL/SIL is required.
• Knowledge of basic machine learning models and data analysis techniques is required.
• Knowledge of internal combustion engines and their operation is required.
• GT-POWER engine simulations are preferred.

Responsibilities

• Collect engine data and calibrate virtual sensors and device drivers for automotive and off-highway programs.
• Investigate issues in test cells, trucks, and field units using a structured problem‑solving approach.
• Identify root causes through cross‑functional collaboration and provide guidance on features.
• Support technical deep dives, design reviews and test trip reviews.
• Own and update engineering practices, tuning guides, and calibration tools.
• Perform GT-POWER and MATLAB simulations to support calibration development; support AUTOSAR software calibration.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of controls development methods and validation procedures.
